Gantry Systems

Laser Systems for surface treatment of extensive parts

Within the aerospace Industry, there is a real need for efficient turnkey solutions for surface treatment of large components. To tackle this requirement Güdel based in Langenthal Switzerland and cleanLASER, have agreed to a global cooperation that will deliver flexible and accurate gantry based automation that incorporates the latest laser technology. Applications such as cleaning of moulds and dies for CFRP production, surface ablation and preparation for adhesive bonding of aircraft components, plus paint removal, will all be possible.

“Requests from the aviation industry gave us the idea of jointly developing gantry systems“, Edwin Büchter, managing director and president of cleanLASER, explains. “Applications in other areas, such as wind energy are also possible.”

By early 2013 a global centre of excellence will be set up at the Güdel facility in Coventry, England. The first step will be to build a demonstration system in order to give potential customers the opportunity to test their applications live and under real conditions.

Even with large components such as wing skins, a repeatability of significantly less than one millimetre can be achieved. There is a huge benefit to customers from this highly precise and technically advanced complete solution, delivering repeatable results without the risk of damage to the part. The cooperation between Güdel and cleanLASER gives the industry just what it needs.
